''Welcome to VSUES!'' Foreign students celebrate New Year

20 февраля 2019 Students’ life

Students and professors of the School of Foreign Languages celebrated the Lunar New Year with a song marathon.

Foreign students and everyone else listened to songs in Korean and Chinese languages with pleasure. There were no restrictions for the students to choose compositions in their native languages. For example, a student of the Russian language course, Wang Zhengshen, performed a beautiful love song. A chorus of sophomores of the undergraduate degree in Linguistics, led by their supervisor Elena Pugacheva, sang the song "Welcome to Beijing."

- Our song is about Chinese hospitality, a big interesting country with a rich culture. I want to note that the preparation for this event rallied the students, everybody of them wanted to participate. I also had a few words in the song. I am very pleased with our performance and the holiday. Thanks to the organizers!  - Elena Pugacheva said.

Students from the North Korea solemnly sang a song about the national flag. And the first year students of the undergraduate course "Linguistics" sang the most fun New Year song. They dressed in all red - the color of the Chinese New Year. They held images of pigs in their hands - the symbol of 2019 year. All the spectators danced to the sounds of music.

The audience liked the solo performed by a student from China, Li Jianing. The hall sang along! The final program number was performed by North Korean students of Russian-language course who sang a song called “One Heart”. The guys not only sang beautifully, but also accompanied themselves on the guitar and accordion.

Event organizer Galina Kasyanenko, who works with foreign students, shared her impressions:

- We spent the Eastern New Year in the form of a concert. Our foreign students got the opportunity to sing in their native language. After all, they learn Russian, so they usually present Russian songs to the audience. And this is beautiful, and students like it, and it is useful for language practice. But, of course, everyone gladly prepared and showed songs in their own languages. You can call this a feature of this event. In addition, it was a peculiar review of vocal talents on the eve of a large inter-university festival “I study in Russia”, which will be held in April at our university. And our vocal talents are beyond praise. I wish our students success in their studies and in all other endeavors, and to the teachers - health, patience and creativity. And may the Golden Pig - the symbol of this year - bring prosperity and happiness to all!
