Anastasia Sverchkova, a 3rd year student majoring in International Business, won a contest of Toyama Prefecture in Japan. She will participate an annual program at one of the best universities in the prefecture University of Toyama.

VSUES has long history of partnership with Toyama Prefecture and offers students grants and exchange programs in Toyama through the International and Cultural Affairs Department.

- The selection had several stages. The students from different universities of the Primorsky Krai participated there. We wrote an essay and provided all the necessary documents. Those who passed the first stage were invited to take a test, to write an essay and to be interviewed by a representative of Toyama Prefecture. - A month and a half later, I was chosen for the program.

Anastasia stated that she has been interested in Japan since school.

- For a year I lived in Tokyo, in the family, and studied in high school. I also attended Japanese language course at the School of Foreign Languages, VSUES. Last year I participated in the exchange program and I have been studying at the Toyama University of International Studies for two semesters. VSUES and Toyama University of International Studies have a student exchange agreement. Such a background was very useful to me during the selection of applicants for the current program.

Education in Japan is quite expensive, payment for a semester starts from several thousand dollars. This is why the grant and exchange programs via our university are a great chance and opportunity to learn the language, culture, and gain experience of living in another country. I plan to study at the Department of Humanities at Toyama University. I chose «Japanese folklore» as the topic of the study, said Anastasia.

Toyama Prefecture has been accepting students from the Primorsky Krai under different programs since 1992. The prefecture has great importance to the implementation of this program and expects that in the students will try their best to develop good relations between the countries. The host party covers the costs of education fees at the selected university and pays high scholarship.
