A regional boxing tournament was held in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in memory of the trainers and boxers of Kamchatka Region. Athletes from seven Russian regions took part in the competition: Kamchatka Territory, Khabarovsk Territory, Sakhalin Region, Primorsky Territory, Trans-Baikal Territory, the Republic of Buryatia and the Republic of Khakassia.
Athletes fought in nine weight categories, with four boxers competing in each. The losers of the first fights then fought for the bronze, while the winners of the first fights went on to the final and fought for the gold. Three boxers from the VSUES team made it to the podium.
Jahongir Kodirov, a 3rd year student at the School of Law (International Relations), won the regional gold medal in the 60kg weight category.
Dmitry Sidelnikov, 2nd year student of the School of International Business, Economics and Management ("Small Business Management"), and Firdavs Aslonov, 2nd year student of the School of Physical Education and Sport ("Pedagogical Education, Physical Training") won bronze in their weight categories.
— We prepared for the competition in the Champion sports club. Alexey Svinkin, Merited Master of Sport and trainer of the VSUES Sports Club, trained our team and me. I am very grateful to my trainer for his support and guidance, as well as to the lecturers at the International Relations and Law Department, who are sympathetic to my sporting career," said Zhakhongir Kodirov, captain of the VSUES boxing team.
