Festive program “Lavish Maslenitsa” was carried out in the exhibition center of the museum named after Arseniev.

Maslenitsa festival is one of the most joyful and cheerful holidays. During the whole week the Russian people are ushering out the cloying winter, making blinis and visiting each other. Everybody happily welcomes spring that brings vivacity in nature and the warmth of the sun.

On the 25th of February a festive program “Lavish Maslenitsa” was carried out in the exhibition center of the museum named after Arseniev. VSUES foreign students from P.R. China, Republic of Korea and the USA had a possibility to get acquainted with original Russian folk culture and traditions. They listened to old-time ceremonial Maslenitsa songs, participated in folk games, helped themselves to genuine Russian blinis with sour cream. The final and the most spectacular stage of the Maslenitsa was the burning of the jack-straw representing winter. The students and teachers danced in a ring around the bonfire having taken each other’s hands.

- Everything was interesting and joyful! The blinis were very tasty! - said foreign students. - We enjoyed this festival!

- I took part in the Maslenitsa festival for the first time, - said teacher of the Chinese language Peng Weihong. - We would like to thank the organizers and the staff of the Department of International Relations for providing an opportunity for us to become familiar with the Russian culture.
