It has been 20 years since friendly and partnership relations were established between the Japanese prefecture Toyama and Primorski Krai which is twinned with the prefecture. In honor of this event a delegation from the administration of the Toyama prefecture paid a visit to Vladivostok and came to VSUES.

The university has maintained business and friendly contact with the Toyama prefecture for more than 10 years. It aims at developing and strengthening good relations between Russia and Japan. Let us remind that in 2001 a Japanese stone garden was created on the territory of the university. It is a unique object symbolizing friendship between the nations and it became one of the favorable places for rest of the city folk. Next to the main entrance of the university an alley of the traditional Japanese tree sakura has been transplanted.

In 2008 the VSUES president Gennady Lazarev was appointed as the chairman of the Friendship society “Vladivostok-Toyama”. Since 2010 an office of the society has been open in VSUES. Japanese exhibitions and festivals are organized and held in the university on a regular basis. Also, there are several Japanese nooks in VSUES, for example, a hall of fine arts of the East “To Yo Geidzutsu Kan”.

A meeting of the delegation from the Toyama prefecture administration with the VSUES management and staff took place in the reception-room of the president’s office. Vice chairman of the Legislative assembly of the Toyama prefecture expressed his gratitude to the VSUES management for developing positive cultural relations between Vladivostok and the Toyama prefecture and presented a collection of Japanese comics “manga” to the university library as a gift.
