One of the most reputable global companies dealing with university ratings QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) had a seminar for chiefs of the leading universities of the world in South Korea. VSUES vice-president for innovations and IT, Doctor of Economics, Vladimir Kryukov took part in this seminar. In the interview with PrimaMedia he said that the place of a university in the rating could not be considered an objective evidence of the education quality, but nothing better than rating had been created so far to categorize universities.

Note: QS agency has compiled rating since 2004 and included up to 500 universities in it - http://www.topuniversities.com. Cambridge leads the top ten universities this year (Harvard was considered the best university during the past six years). The top ten also includes Harvard, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yale University, Oxford, Imperial College London, University College London, Chicago University, University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University. Only two Russian higher education institutions got in the TOP 300 of the rating: Moscow State University took the 112th place and St. Petersburg State University – 251st place.

Estimation of universities by QS is based on opinion survey of employers, index of staff scientific works quoting, correlation of student to academic numbers, reputation of teachers and managers, number of foreign students. In addition such “subjective” factors are being taken in account, as index of academic reputation and index of reputation among the staff and also percent of teachers from other countries is appraised as well.
