Paper cranes were let fly in the sky in honor of 10 years since the friendship garden Toyama-Vladivostok was created.

More than 10 years ago a Japanese garden of stones called the garden of Toyama-Vladivostok friendship appeared on the territory of VSUES. It has been decided that the ceremony of celebration of 10 years of the stone garden foundation will be held in the year of the 45th anniversary of the university.

A delegation from the Japanese prefecture of Toyama came to the festive event. The ceremony also was visited by the representatives of the consulate general of Japan, Vladivostok city administration, Vladivostok-Toyama friendship society and Toyama-Vladivostok association.

The stone garden is a unique object created according to all the rules of Japanese landscape architecture. Over the past ten years it has become a symbol of friendship between the nations and one of the popular place of recreation for the townsfolk.

The VSUES president Gennady Lazarev who is a chairman of Vladivostok-Toyama friendship society said that the local people could feel the culture of Japan and East in the stone garden. The garden has become well integrated with the architecture of the university premises. Students and teachers make all the efforts to maintain it in the original shape and in good condition.

The “Expromt” vocal group of the university presented a well-known and favorite song “Podmoskovnye vechera” in two languages – Japanese and Russian.  

The festive ceremony was ended with launching of Japanese paper cranes on colored air-balloons into the sky. The guests of the ceremony wrote their most desired wishes on the wings of the birds.
