VSUES volunteers attended opening ceremony of Olympic villages “Sochi 2014”
On the 30th of January three Olympic villages that would host sportsmen from all over the world were officially opened in Sochi. Each of the villages is unique and has its own symbol. Thus, the coastal village “Usad’ba” has a white bear as its symbol, the mountain village “Derevnya” has a snow leopard and the additional mountain village “Sloboda” has a white bunny. The villages are completely ready to welcome the sportsmen.
VSUES volunteers went through all educational trainings and got familiar with the Olympic villages. Now they are ready to render their assistance to foreign guests. Volunteers will meet sportsmen, inform them about all necessary issues and organize their spare time and participation in ceremonies.
The villages and Olympic objects were grandly opened by the president of the organization committee “Sochi 2014” D. Chernishenko and famous Olympic champions E. Isinbaeva, S. Zhurova, A. Nemov and M. Chydov who also held positions of majors of the Olympic villages. In her speech Elena Isinbaeva expressed a special gratitude to Sochi volunteers for their assistance.
Volunteers work on 8-hour shifts. They are provided with free transportation, uniform, accommodation and meals. The Olympic committee also takes care of cultural and entertaining program for them. Volunteers are fully immersed in their work and they talk about it with a great enthusiasm. Many volunteers notice that they like to help, to meet different people and to be in the center of the events.
