VSUES exchange students from the USA participated in a round table discussion held by the School of foreign languages

1 апреля 2014

VSUES students including international students from the USA gathered together for a round-table discussion on the topic “University studies and successful career”. They talked about main goals and priorities of studies, compared educational systems of both countries and shared their plans for future.

Round-table discussions are organized within the frame of the Russian Far East Studies course. Every semester international students meet students of our university to discuss present day social and political issues. Michael Wright, student from Washington University performed as a moderator during the discussion.

An interesting question came up in the conversation – “Work where you want or where you get paid more?” As it turned out, the American students were fond of work which brought them satisfaction. As for the Russian students, they preferred high-salary jobs despite the interest.

In the end of the meeting, Kirill Dyshlovoy, a first-year student of “Television broadcasting” profile commented:

- The round table discussion clearly showed differences and common points of the two cultures and two countries. We started our discussion with comparing university systems, but it ended up in comparing life values and views. No doubt it made the theme broader and more interesting. Thanks to real-life communication such meetings help students understand another mentality and strengthen international ties.
