Look and choose: Foreign students of VSUES are cooking borsch on the OTV-Prim TV channel

Primorye Public Television (OTV-Prim) invited foreign students of VSUES to participate in the program «Look and Choose». The guys cooked Russian borsch. Shooting was commemorated the International Soup Day. To prepare the dishes, students who cook well were chosen - Shi Hongjia, Han Changfeng and Zhai Hao (winner in the «National dish» category of the culinary competition of the International Interuniversity Festival «I study in Russia-2019»).

The shooting took place within the walls of the VSUES College of Service and Design. The students and the crew of the TV channel were hospitably greeted by teachers - Galina Chemis and Natalya Shekero, and also college students - Alexey and Emma. At the meeting, they decided to cook two pans at once. One was for foreign students, the other was for Russian. The College of Service and Design prepared in advance for the arrival of a team of Chinese students and a film crew: the broth was cooked for the future borsch and all the ingredients were cooked.

Natalia Shekero, told about how many types of borsch exist, and what is their difference. The groups started to cook. College students commented on their actions in stages, then all together cut onions, cabbage, beets, potatoes. In the process, OTV-Prim correspondent Ekaterina Pomigalova took an interview.

Questions for students from the People's Republic of China were different.

- Is there any soup that is considered national in Chinese cuisine?

Yes, this is tomato soup with eggs, Shi Hongjia replied. - It is widely distributed throughout China, primarily due to the ease of preparation. Chicken broth or seasoning with the desired taste is added to boiling water. At this time, chopped tomatoes are fried in hot oil, added to the broth along with salt, sugar and ground pepper. A shaken egg is added in a thin stream at the very last moment: it is poured into boiling water, stirring vigorously. Very tasty!

- What is your favorite dish?

- I like to cook meat. I do it best. All the guys in my group like to come to visit me when I cook, Zhai Hao said.

- My favorite dish is chicken. I cook it very tasty. And in China, we have chicken cooked on fire, Han Changfeng added.

The guys answered the questions and cooked in parallel. The atmosphere was surprisingly warm. Foreign students easily entered into a conversation and shared their knowledge in the preparation of Russian dishes. Turns out Shi Hongjia can bake pancakes. She learned this at a master class dedicated to the celebration of Maslenitsa.

So, the soup was ready. Natalya Shekero, a teacher, reacted very responsibly to the whole process, told a lot of advices. For example, about why it is important to add not just chopped beets, namely beet juice, and pour it into boiling borsch.

Guys listened carefully. When they sat down at the table, the guys joked at each other, in particular, whose borsch was better. As a result, they agreed that the taste qualities of the dishes are wonderful, and most importantly - guys cooked with a soul!

The program «Look and Choose» with the participation of foreign students of VSUES will be aired on OTV-Prim TV channel on April 23, 2020. Filming of the program took place in March 2020 before the introduction of the regime of self-isolation.
