Vladivostok AI Week 2021 was held at the VSUES

2 декабря 2021 University life

On November 26, the Vladivostok AI Week 2021 Artificial Intelligence Week ended at VSUES. This is the first such project in the Far East, which was organized by: The Institute of Information Technologies of the VSUES, the Russian Association of Artificial Intelligence, the Institute of Automation and Advanced Technologies of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Laboratory of Intelligent Systems, the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Technologies of the FEFU. The partners of the event were well-known IT companies of Primorsky Krai FarPost and Rhonda Software.

Every day more than 150 people gathered online to study the reports of Russian scientists. Gorodetsky V. I., Kobrinsky B. A. opened the event with their lectures — legends in the field of artificial intelligence. All reports were previously presented at world-class conferences and supplemented specifically for Vladivostok I Week 2021.

In the lectures, the speakers shared unique recommendations for self-education: links to the works of great scientists, books, courses, conferences and presentations to them. It will take more than one month to study all the additional materials. Therefore, we can say that, for those who are especially enthusiastic, the Week will not end soon. Moreover, for some students, it may become fateful. For example, to direct their interest towards the study of medicine to develop the direction of predictive analytics, in which there are so few specialists around the world.

This event was useful for not only students, undergraduates and young scientists. Nelly Sedova, Associate Professor of the Department of Information Technologies and Systems of VSUES, attended all online meetings and shared her impressions:

— Interesting reports, topical issues raised during the event allowed us to think about the state of modern artificial intelligence systems, both in Russia and in the world. It is behind-the-scenes discussions of questions about strong and weak artificial intelligence that allow generating new, interesting ideas for projects, lectures and forming stable conceptual thinking. Unfortunately, I feel a lack of such events, since the remoteness of our region makes it almost impossible (especially aggravated after 2020) to regularly participate in conferences and events dedicated to machine learning and other intellectual methods. I hope that such events will become a tradition in Vladivostok.

On November 25, as part of the event, a student IT hackathon was held. Five teams of 20 students and undergraduates from 2 universities — VSUES and FEFU met at the competition. In just one day, students developed a solution for the cases of business partners of the largest IT enterprises of Primorsky Krai and the Russian Far East — FarPost and Rhonda Software companies. In each case, the best teams were revealed, who were awarded prizes from companies and diplomas of winners.

On the final day of Vladivostok I Week 2021, Valeria Gribova expressed warm words of gratitude to all the organizers, participants and listeners:

— Artificial intelligence is a very interesting topic. We can say that it is, one way or another, relevant for every person. It is great that, despite such long distances, we have paved this discussion of the final day across the country. I sincerely thank you all. It seems to me that such events are very useful. They allow us to think, open up new horizons, fresh views on events, on the path - where we, researchers, need to move on. Thank you for participating. In my opinion, the Week of Artificial Intelligence was a success!

Science and business have joined to identify many tasks, and therefore opportunities for those who are just starting their professional path. Dare the young generation of talented and inquisitive minds. It is in your power to achieve amazing results, both in natural and artificial intelligence!
