The Three University Missions regional ranking for the Far Eastern Federal District was developed by RAEX agency on behalf of the Russian Union of Rectors ahead of the announcement of the Priority 2030 competition specifically for Far Eastern universities. In this regard, the results and methodology of the rating are of particular importance and attract great attention from the university community.

VSUES ranked sixth in the Far Eastern Federal District (FEFD) rankings for 2021, outperforming all state universities in the region with a classical training structure. Medical universities and a university with a significant share of medical education occupied the first five places in the ranking.

The ranking evaluates 25 higher education institutions of the Far Eastern Federal District, with comparable characteristics of the full-time enrolment in higher education programs. It should be noted that VSUES looks decent in the ranking presented, without being able to compete with medical universities.

The regional rankings do not include federal universities, as they are assessed in the rankings by indicators of national and international significance, while the local rankings focus on assessing universities in terms of the realization of their educational and scientific potential, their impact on the social environment of the region, i.e. the training of quality staff and regional relevance.

A feature of the assessment methodology used was also the consideration of three rating factors: "Education" (45%), "Science" (25%) and "Society" (30%). Thus, the importance of criteria traditionally important for global rankings - scientific publications and their citations, and international integration indicators - was reduced.
