International students studying at VSUES took part in the celebration of the beginning of Maslenitsa week. Russian language students organized the event for them.

Russian students from the Institute of Pedagogy and Linguistics spoke about the traditions of Maslenitsa week. Therefore, foreign students studying at the preparatory department and receiving higher education in the field of linguistics learned to bake pancakes. Master-class on cooking the main Maslenitsa dish was held in the kitchen of the dormitory where students live.

The event ended with a friendly tea party and tasting of own pancakes.

Svetlana Karyakina, an instructor of the Preparatory Department for International Students, explained:

— It is not just entertainment, but also an opportunity to tell foreign students about Russian customs and even once again tighten their knowledge of the Russian language.

Today there are over 500 foreign students studying at VSUES, mostly from South-East Asia: the People''''s Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, and Laos. A large number of foreigners come from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia and Ukraine. International students most often choose such fields of study as economics, management, linguistics, design, and tourism.
