My mother and sister also studied in Russia: A student from Mongolia chose Vladivostok and VVSU

2 февраля 2023 Students’ life

We are continuing the series of materials produced jointly with the International and Cultural Affairs Department. Today's guest is Suvd Jargalsaikhan. The girl is from Mongolia:

– I arrived in Russia in the autumn and now studying at the preparatory department of VVSU.   University admission is still to come. My mother also studied in Russia. She often talked about it, taught me poems and Russian songs. I remember «Little land» and «My fine and distant future» very well. My elder sister also studied in Russia, and now she teaches Russian at a university in Mongolia. My Russian lessons started in secondary school, and they were my favorite ones.

  • So you already spoke Russian easily in Vladivostok?

No. One thing is a school subject, and another – live communication with native speakers. In the beginning, I had difficulty expressing my opinion, I lacked words.  I made friends with students from different countries Thailand, Laos, Nigeria, Vietnam. Although one friend I had originally, Maya, we came together from Mongolia. Roommate I have a Russian girl. So there is an opportunity to train speech. True, sometimes I have to go to English.

  • How are you doing in class? Do you understand?

In class, teachers speak not so fast. Then I understand everything.

  • What field of study have you chosen?

My mother was a civil engineer in her time, and I’m going to do international economics. When I graduate from VVSU, I want to learn in China – international relations. So life for the next seven years is planned.

  • Was it difficult for you to adapt?

No. When I was in school, I lived in a dormitory, too, so it was easy to get used to.

  • Did anything here surprise you?

I think Russians are very punctual. They always try to be on time.

  • What did you like?

I am very interested in studying here. Really like teachers, they are kind and patient. VVSU – a very cozy university. Conveniently, the dormitory is connected with the educational buildings, and I can quickly come to the class.  I love the art and want to be good at it. I participate in competitions. At the festival «Star Autumn» read Marina Tsvetaeva and took the third place. Also took part in traditional Mandelstam Readings, on the birthday of the poet near the monument in the square of the VVSU recited poetry.

  • What about Vladivostok?

Mongolia is a country without «big water», and it was the first time I saw the sea here. That's the biggest plus of the city. It's certainly very beautiful.
