I have two countries now: A student from Laos about VVSU, translation difficulties and plans related only to Russia

17 февраля 2023 Students’ life

Xayyahack Anonh is from Laos. We continue our series of materials with a second year student from the School of International Business, Economics and Management, prepared jointly with the International and Cultural Affairs Department.

Xayyahack Anonh started the conversation about life and study in Russia:

 – I live in a huge and very interesting country now. Russia is 72 Laos in area.

  • How do you feel here?

Everything is fine, but it is very hard to learn the language. I try to speak Russian even with foreigners. But the pronunciation is not given yet. There are friends and teachers who help me a lot. I watch movies and listen to music in Russian. I want to know more about your country.

  • Do you live in a dormitory? Are you settling in?

Yes. The first three months were very difficult. Bad Russian, it was hard to explain anything. It's better now, but it's a long way from perfect. I really want to speak well. And I want to say «thank you» to everyone. To everyone who helped and is still helping!

  • What do you like? Sports, books, walking?

Three months ago, I took part in a Dragon class-rowing race with other international students. We, the VVSU team, won first place. It was the first boat race on the sea for me. It was difficult, but very interesting

  • Are you getting used to the city?

The sea is here, and there is no sea in Laos. Vladivostok is a beautiful city. Open kind people. And helpful. If you ask for help, they help you. I have also been to Moscow. It's a huge, beautiful capital. So many people! I really want to see St. Petersburg, but I can't yet. In general, I want to see your country.

  • How do you see your future?

My dream is to study for a master's degree in Moscow. I really hope it all works out. I would like to work in both Russia and Laos. I want to be involved in economic relations between our countries. I have two countries now.
