A delegation of VVSU students took part in the Far Eastern Model UN
Students of the Institute of Law of VVSU majoring in “International Relations” traditionally visited the annual Far Eastern Model UN. More than 40 students from various universities in Russia and abroad took part in it.
The event was held at a high level, the work of two committees of the General Assembly, as well as the Security Council, was simulated. Current international agendas were discussed in order to find constructive solutions. For participants, Model UN in the Far East is a real holiday where they can demonstrate their knowledge and skills, meet acquaintances and friends, and exchange ideas. This year, 4th year student Egor Nekliudov attended the event for the sixth time, but for the first time as Japan’s representative in the UN Security Council.
“The Security Council is the best part of the modeling movement. Lively debates, political agendas, unsuccessful or successful attempts to find common interest in English. This is the reason such events are implemented for. I am very pleased with the time spent and recommend everyone who is interested in the political, economic, social agenda of our planet to participate in the Model UN,” shared Egor.
As Roman Grivanov, Head of the Department of International Relations and Law, notes, the main goal of university professors is the professional development of students. Such events help future international relations experts not only improve their professional English skills and learn about the work of the UN, but also become more closely involved in the professional environment, establish contacts with future colleagues, and meet enthusiasts of their field, which will undoubtedly help them in their future careers.
The participation in the conference requires knowledge and use of terms in English. The participants of the model are interested in what is happening in the international arena. During the discussions, students get the opportunity to understand the official positions of different countries.
As VVSU student Ekaterina Grebenshchikova shared, thanks to the simulation of diplomatic negotiations during the Model UN, she was able to put into practice her knowledge in the field of international relations. And for 2nd year student Pavel Kholod, participation in the event was the first experience of interaction in an English-speaking environment.
Let us remind you that VVSU students annually become participants in the Model UN not only in the Far East, but also in Moscow.
