VVSU teacher Ekaterina Guskina dedicated thematic classes to the famous Russian poets and writers, as well as to the history of the largest cities in the country in Lao National University and in the Russian Center for Science and Culture.

The teacher started with the Russian literary language of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin as the creator of Russian literature language. Students learned about the plots of some of the poet’s works: “The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish,” “The Queen of Spades,” “Eugene Onegin”. The students listened to and analyzed an excerpt from the poem “Winter Evening,” and at the end of the lesson read “Near Lukomorye there is a green oak tree.”

“Pushkin wrote his works in simple and beautiful Russian, which is suitable for both literature and oral speech. Samuel Marshak, a famous writer and translator, said: “Every age has its own Pushkin.” It is important that all people can find something in the works of Alexander Sergeevich. Students respond to such activities with their hearts - we enjoy and admire together. And then they say how they dream of going to Russia, to Vladivostok, to VVSU!”, shared Ekaterina Guskina.

Documentary films about Russia and poems by Alexander Pushkin, Sergei Yesenin, Fyodor Tyutchev, and Yulia Drunina helped foreign students to learn more about culture and history of a large country. The VVSU teacher told the students of the Russian Center for Science and Culture courses about Moscow and St. Petersburg and showed state symbols.

“It was a very good event. I liked Tyutchev’s poem “Russia cannot be understood with the mind.” I want to try to understand Russia,” said student from Laos Alisa Buaphaivan, sharing her impressions.

Laotian students study Russian in their native country, but currently, more than 30 students from the Republic are studying at VVSU. In 2023, the university has prepared a free travel program to Russia for applicants from Laos. Together with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People''''s Democratic Republic to the Russian Federation, Vilawan Yiapohe, the university is developing a project for training guides-interpreters at VVSU to work with Russian tourists in Laos.
