Participants of the VVSU University Summer Camp Session Explore Primorye
VVSU receives schoolchildren from the Donetsk People''''s Republic . The children discover Vladivostok from a new side: they attend interesting lectures and excursions, learn about the history of the city and the region in museums, make new friends and plan their future.
The children were very impressed after visiting the Primorsky Oceanarium, the largest in Russia. The schoolchildren looked at the sea animals with interest, learned about penguins and seals.
“I love the sea, I constantly study fish, different types of sharks, including prehistoric ones. When we were brought on an excursion to the Oceanarium, my eyes ran wild, I looked at everything carefully and took memorable photos. I share my impressions with my mother, she is very happy for me and looks with great interest at the photos I sent from the other end of Russia,” shared Veronika Isakova, a participant in the University Session.
In a little less than a week of staying in the seaside capital, the schoolchildren managed to see almost all the main sights of the city: the famous funicular, a submarine, and observation platforms. They were told about the history of the Far East in the Arsenyev Museum, and about the history of the state in the multimedia park "Russia - My History". The counselor of the children, a member of the student pedagogical detachment "Iktus", Eva Golubeva noted that it was very nice to see the positive emotions of the girls and boys.
Another event organized for the children was "Fun Starts". The event took place on the football field of the sports complex "Champion" of VVSU. Despite the cloudy weather, the mood of the children and counselors was bright and sunny. The schoolchildren had to go through seven stations. The participants competed in tasks for speed, coordination, agility and mutual understanding between each other when performing paired tasks. Sports are a favorite hobby for many participants of the summer session. They play sports, tennis, and dance.
“I really like any sports events held in the camp. We ran with a ball, played tic-tac-toe, and completed other sports tasks. I am very grateful to the university for organizing such a busy camp program. After finishing school, I am considering the possibility of entering the VVSU Institute of Pedagogy and Linguistics. The university has excellent teachers and comfortable buildings,” noted Veronika Krivolap.
“I think that holding a sports game is a great idea. The event was easy and fun. Such events unite the children, form a team spirit, and help them learn about their physical capabilities,” shared schoolboy Daniil Esipov.
The children were also told about Primorye''''s closest neighbors - Asian countries. Teachers from the Institute of Pedagogy and Linguistics prepared a master class "Closer to Asia" for the schoolchildren, where they were introduced to Chinese, Korean and Japanese culture, national cuisine, geography of the Far East and the peculiarities of some words and expressions used by Far Easterners. As a keepsake of the camp, the children made origami frogs.
"This week, the children learned a lot about Asia. The children actively participated in the game, answered questions. I did not expect that origami would cause such delight in the children, and that such art would be so interesting to them," shared Iulia Konovalova, Director of the Institute of Pedagogy and Linguistics at VVSU.
Iulia Radaeva, Head of the Translator Training Department at VVSU, introduced the schoolchildren to the culture of Japan. The children tried to write hieroglyphs, guessed their meaning and tried on traditional Korean and Japanese costumes. Iulia noted that the participants were excellent at writing hieroglyphs, and this skill can be developed in language programs at VVSU.
We tried to put in place all the necessary arrangements for children who came from the Donetsk People''''s Republic. The children speak with excitement about the hospitality and care of VVSU towards them. Schoolchildren participate in activities, play board games, make new acquaintances, attend master classes, express themselves in art, music, sports and dance.
The University Summer Camp Session is the project being implemented with the support of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, and the youth movement “Movement of the First”.
