19 августа 2024 Education

Four students of the Institute of Pedagogy and Linguistics Polina Manikhina, Lev Bulakh, Ekaterina Sviridova, and Ma Miao were lucky to do their internship at the All-Russian Children''s Center "Ocean". The days at the "Ocean" center were so bright, rich and interesting that the students cannot stop sharing their impressions.

Head of the Department of International, Interregional Cooperation and Protocol of "Ocean" center, Olga Shvetsova, noted, that in July-August 2024, the successful implementation of the program "Children of the World" became possible owing to the long-term fruitful cooperation of the "Ocean" center and Vladivostok State University. Children delegations from China, Mongolia, Laos, Tajikistan, and Belarus took part in the program.

“This is the first time we have worked in such a format as this year. In the spring, we received an offer from the All-Russian Children''s Center “Ocean” to send volunteer translators of various languages to participate in organizing the international summer session ‘Children of the World’. We offered our students to take advantage of such an excellent opportunity. When our students went on their internship, I understood what a huge amount of work and what a high level of responsibility they had. I would like to note that all our students did their job great and gained a lot of experience in real and useful work as a translator. It was also nice to receive warm words of gratitude from the management of the center. Completing such an internship helps students overcome the language barrier, and also teaches them how to build communications and organize children''s recreation," shared Iulia Konovalova, Director of the Institute of Pedagogy and Linguistics at VVSU.

Polina Manikhina, a first-year student majoring in "Linguistics. Translation and Translation Studies (Chinese Language)", completed an internship as a Chinese language translator.

Polina has the brightest and most positive memories of the internship.

"For three weeks, I practiced with native speakers, there were 12 children from China in my group and my knowledge increased significantly," Polina said.

For Ma Miao, a third-year student majoring in "Linguistics. Russian Language and Intercultural Communication" program at VVSU, this internship is an important and useful experience. The student''s main task was to work as a translator with the Chinese delegation.

"The internship at the Center was quite difficult, because it is a combination of translation and teaching activities. I learned how to communicate with schoolchildren, I had to solve issues of interaction between Chinese and Russian children, find an approach to the kids and try to make them more obedient. Such a wonderful opportunity presented itself to me thanks to my favorite university,” Ma Miao shared her impressions.

Ekaterina Sviridova, a 3rd year student majoring in Linguistics. Translation and Translation Studies (English Language), thanks to her excellent knowledge, performed the difficult and responsible work of an English language translator:

“During my translation internship, I was given a wonderful opportunity to work with the heads of foreign delegations. There were representatives of Laos, China, Belarus, Mongolia and Tajikistan among them. In addition, I translated various documents, including event scenarios, and also participated in the preparation of the panel discussion between the BRICS countries.”

“I would like to say many words of gratitude to the guys and VVSU for their invaluable assistance in implementing international programs. This year was no exception. After all, thanks to the university students, foreign children feel that they are understood and heard correctly, which is especially important for the younger generation,” Olga Shvetsova thanked.
