The VVSU Men's Basketball Team Visited China
The VVSU Men''''s Basketball Team took part in the pre-season international tournament. The annual competition was dedicated to the development and maintenance of friendly relations between Russia and China and was held in Jixi. The Chinese side willingly invites Russian teams, especially universities.
The tournament was attended by 14 teams from three countries: Russia, China and Mongolia. Russia was represented at the competition by teams from Vladivostok (VVSU team), Khabarovsk and Blagoveshchensk. The VVSU team included bachelor and master degree students, alumni, and several athletes from other universities.
"Our team has participated in these competitions for the second year in a row. The scale of the event has grown due to the large number of invited teams and their level. The atmosphere at such games is always very inspiring, friendly, and charges each team. For our team, it was a real challenge to play against such professional teams. Each of us tried and gave it our all,” shared Ivan Morgunov, a representative of the VVSU basketball team.
According to Igor Makarov, the VVSU team coach, the tournament was very useful for the team:
“Our team have something to strive for. Each of the participants gained a lot of experience, and the athletes got even more motivation to train and show better results. This tournament was an excellent pre-season preparation. The games showed where we need to step up our efforts. After the tournament, we immediately began to work on our mistakes in order to approach the upcoming season as prepared as possible,” shared Igor Makarov, the VVSU team coach.
Danil Furmanov, a student at the Institute of International Business, Economics and Management at VVSU, said that these competitions were held at the highest level and noted that the team had been preparing for this tournament for a month through constant and intensive training.
“There were many professional teams at the sports event, and it was interesting to play with them and learn something new from them. I plan to continue playing for the VVSU basketball team at new competitions, improve my basketball skills and strive for new victories,” added Danil.
At the end of the sports event, the participants were awarded souvenirs with the symbols of the Chinese teams and branded balls.
