Foreign Listeners of VVSU Learn About Russian Easter Traditions and Customs

21 апреля 2025 Culture and Art

The Institute for Training Foreign Citizens at VVSU continues to introduce university students to the cultural life of Russia. On the eve of Easter, the foreign students were told about the history and specific features of this Christian holiday.

Teachers of Russian language — Svetlana Karyakina, Marina Trokhovtseva, Inna Ishmurzina, Valeria Petoyan, and Olga Nikiforova — made Easter workshops to help foreign students from China, Laos, and North Korea understand Russian culture. Students learned about the traditions of the festival and painted eggs themselves and decorated tree branches with paper flowers.

In 2025, Orthodox Easter fell on April 20th. Today it is one of the oldest and most important Christian holidays. Its date changes every year depending on the lunar cycle and spring equinox. The traditions of celebrating Easter go back in time but have practically remained unchanged over the years.

Teachers of the Preparatory Department of the Institute regularly introduce these traditions to students from Asia, Africa, and other countries worldwide. They organize New Year celebrations, Maslenitsa events, visit museums and theaters, as well as participate in student creativity festivals.

Currently, under the guidance of their teachers, students studying in Preparatory Department are preparing to take part in the anniversary X International Interuniversity Festival “I Study in Russia”.
