VVSU Named the Leader in Education Among Far Eastern Universities for the Fourth Consecutive Year
The international information group "Interfax" has released its annual 2025 National Ranking of Russian Universities. For the fourth year in a row, Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service (VVSU) has taken first place in the "Education" category among Far Eastern universities and has entered the top 25 Russian universities for this indicator.
Compared to the 2024 results, VVSU not only maintained its position as the education leader among universities in the Far Eastern Federal District but also improved its national standing, rising from 38th to 23rd place among all Russian institutions.
Among Far Eastern universities, VVSU also ranks:
· Third in the "Brand" category (a reputational assessment), having improved its national position from 167th to 93rd.
· Third in the "Innovation / Entrepreneurship" category (an assessment of innovation activity and entrepreneurial development), moving up from 93rd to 88th place nationally.
In terms of overall performance, VVSU entered the top 100 strongest universities in Russia, securing the 97th position.
Holding the leadership position confirms the effectiveness of its educational programs and the high quality of its teaching staff. The third-place ranking in innovation within the Far Eastern Federal District underscores the university''''s strong foundation for supporting startups and patent activity. For instance, in its laboratories and through collaboration with the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (DVO RAN), students develop projects that evolve into patents and startups, exemplified by a recent victory in the BRICS Future Skills Challenge in web development.
VVSU prepares specialists for Primorye and the Far East, focusing on the region''''s economy. A new "Tourism and Service Industry" cluster, complete with hotel rooms and restaurants opened as part of the national "Professionalitet" project, trains personnel for 33 leading companies in Primorye.
The university places a special emphasis on engineering, IT, pedagogy, and tourism—fields that currently meet the demands of local businesses. Its unique "7+1" program—seven semesters of study plus one semester of internship at a company—ensures its graduates are highly sought-after by employers. VVSU gives applicants the opportunity to earn a valuable diploma without having to relocate to central Russia.
The Rector of VVSU, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Tatiana Terenteva, commented on the achievement. She stated that being among the top three universities in the Far Eastern Federal District and maintaining leadership in the key "Education" indicator confirms that the university has chosen the correct development strategy and is successfully fulfilling its mission. She emphasized that the university provides a quality education, builds successful professional trajectories for its students, and prepares graduates who are in demand on the regional labor market. She added that these ranking achievements are not only a major success for the university staff but also a strong signal for applicants that VVSU represents educational quality, a successful career, and a lifetime of opportunity.
The National University Ranking is an annual assessment of the performance of higher education institutions in Russia, featuring 389 universities. Expert evaluation is based on six categories, which allow for a precise measurement of the changes taking place within universities.
