Students and staff of VVSU visited Fort No. 9 of the Vladivostok Fortress on Russky Island. The excursion was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. This event was held for the second time jointly with colleagues from the Pacific State Medical University.

The tour through the fort''s engineering structures was led by traveler and researcher of the Far East, veteran of special operations, and specialist at the patriotic education center of PSME, Maksim Kharchenko.

“It was a challenge for those of us who were not very prepared for crawling and climbing. Especially when we descended with students to the third level of the sea structure where you can''t stand up straight—you can only crawl. Of course, our legs were shaking afterwards, but we felt like real fort explorers. Thank you PSME and VVSU for organizing this and allowing us to participate. We hope to visit again next spring,” shared Maria Basova, student affairs specialist at the Institute of Pedagogy and Linguistics at VVSU.

Participants received mandatory safety briefings covering route details before exploring historical objects within the unique defensive structure built at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century.

The trip concluded with an outdoor tea party and commemorative photos.

“I want to thank Aleksander Omelchenko, Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Educational Activities at PSME, for giving us the opportunity to take part in such an excursion. These kinds of meetings are both interesting and beneficial. It is during joint trips that students and tutors get to know each other better, which helps them bond and become friends. Our region’s military history is incredibly rich, so I really wish that students living in our city could learn something new beyond their regular classes. Additionally, autumn forests in Primorye are amazingly beautiful! I''m sure this trip will stay in everyone''s memory for a long time,” said Iuliia Chebova, Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Educational Activities at VVSU.
