Team VVSU Wins Bronze Medal at Vladivostok Volleyball Federation Tournament
A volleyball tournament dedicated to the memory of renowned Primorsky athlete G.V. Arsky concluded recently in Vladivostok. The team representing Voronezh State University (VVSU), known as "Sharks," claimed third place among sixteen male teams participating in the competition.
The games were played over several weeks, starting in October and concluding in late November. Divided into groups for preliminary rounds, the student athletes advanced to the playoffs after securing first place in their group stage.
In the quarterfinals, the Sharks defeated "Rusich-08" convincingly with a scoreline of 2:0. However, the semifinal proved more challenging against reigning champions "Atlant." Despite fierce resistance, the students lost this match with a final tally of 0:2.
The bronze medal game saw them face off against "Dalpribor-V." It was a tough contest where they initially fell behind in the first set before rallying back to tie the second set at 1:1. A decisive surge then led to victory with a final score of 2:1.
Aleksei Gutsulyak, a member of the winning squad, reflected on his team''''s performance:
"We struggled through the first set, losing it, but managed to regroup and turn things around in the second. After drawing level at 1:1, we went on a strong run from 3:3 to 11:3, ultimately sealing our win."
With this achievement, the VVSU "Sharks" secured a spot among the top three teams in the Vladivostok city championship.
