VVSU Celebrates Students'''' Day
Vladivostok State University joyfully celebrated Russian Students'' Day 2026, a favorite holiday among young people. From morning until evening, the campus was filled with interactive stations, game zones, contests, and intellectual battles for students.
The day began with an entertainment show from the "Status" production group. Five themed stations were set up in the university''s Winter Garden. Guests learned about the "student philosophy" — from admission to graduation. At each station, participants solved fun tasks testing their logic, intelligence, and student intuition.
"For some, Students'' Day is just a formality - a post on social media or a greeting card in a group chat. But for my friends at VVSU, this day really matters. All this energy today is about students and for students," said Artyom Kashitsyn, a guest of VVSU.
In the evening, guests and participants enjoyed the traditional gastro tournament called the "Ever-Hungry Student." VVSU students competed in speed eating. For the second year in a row, the contest reached an "international level." Students from Russia, Egypt, Asia, and Africa competed side by side for the win. A total of 45 participants from 8 teams took part.
For the first time ever, the international student team won the gastro tournament. The team included students from Egypt and African countries. They were led to victory by a VVSU student and staff member - Hamed Omar Elmoatazbellah from Egypt.
"The ''Ever-Hungry Student'' is a metaphor that has almost become a tradition. It is well known to experienced professors, first-year students, and even people unfamiliar with campus life. The tournament is held at VVSU for the fifth time, and the menu is different every year. This year, for the first time, we used Chinese dishes as competition food. Also, for the first time, we introduced a team scoring system where losing one participant means the whole team loses," said Vitaly Vorobyov, host of the gastro tournament and a member of the "Status" production group.
Russian Students'' Day, also known as Tatiana Day, is celebrated every year on January 25. The holiday is named after Saint Tatiana of Rome, the patron saint of students and educational institutions.
On January 25, 1755, Empress Elizabeth Petrovna signed a decree to establish Moscow University (now Lomonosov Moscow State University). The university’s founder, Count Ivan Shuvalov, chose that date to honor his mother Tatiana’s name day. That day also marks the feast day of Saint Tatiana. That is how the holiday got its second popular name - Tatiana Day.
